Our Name

City of Grace began in the fall of 2010 when three pastors from Roseville began leading Bible studies in Sacramento and dreaming that one day a new church would worship together in Tahoe Park.  We’ve now been serving the city for four years and we exist to enfold individuals and families into community.

Why the City?

More people live in urban centers than at any other moment in human history. This means that today God’s mission of grace to redeem humanity and creation is a mission “in the city” more than ever before.  Our mission is in Sacramento. Our hope is in a City of Grace where God will dwell with humanity, we will be His people and God Himself will be with us as our God.

(See Jeremiah 29:4-11; Proverbs 11:10-11; Acts 16:8-9,12; Revelation 21:2-4.)

Why Grace?

Grace is God’s love in action toward people who merited the opposite of love.  Grace means God moving heaven and earth to save sinners who could not lift a finger to save themselves. Grace means God sending his only Son to the cross to descend into hell so that we guilty ones might be reconciled to God and received into heaven.

(See Ephesians 1:7, 2:5; Titus 2:11, 3:7; John 3:16; Romans 3:24, 5:8.

God’s Love In Action In Us

Grace received and applied empowers us to love people who deserve the opposite of our love. Grace received and applied empowers us to serve those who cannot repay us. Grace received and applied and spread into every aspect of our lives every day is what transforms and heals broken lives, restores relationships and transforms cities.

(See Jeremiah 29:4-11; Luke 10:25-37; Galatians 3:3-6.)

And so that is how we chose our church name…City of Grace.
